Where do you start?
Step 1 – Source products
First of all, it’s best that you come up with a product. If it’s physical, you will need to build it or buy it ready to ship.
If it’s digital, you will need to craft it ready to send. If you’re stuck on finding ideas for a digital product, we have written an extensive guide on the 15 most profitable digital product to sell.
Step 2 – Think of a marketing plan
Marketing is crucial when it comes to Shopify. The benefit of having your own store on your own domain is that you are in full control. There are no “rules” or “rented space” like with social media or marketplaces.
But the only downside to having your own store is that you are in control of bringing the traffic. Marketplaces such as Etsy have the advantage of giving you traffic, which outways the cons of being on a marketplace and having to pay high fees. But I would always say, having your own store is so much better than being on a marketplace.
There are a few things you can work on to bring traffic:
This is my favourite by far. It does take time to get high in the rankings, but once you do, it’s constant traffic. SEO is about ranking in the top search results on Google, Bing and other search engines online.
It’s traffic that will take a while to come but will be very powerful when it does come. If you want quick money at a cost, get on the ad game below.
Facebook Ads is the most popular one that you would have heard of. From my experience, it’s the most profitable one out there. Although TikTok Ads are really starting to become what Facebook used to be when they first started their ad system.
If I were you, I would get building some ads for TikTok Ads, Facebook Ads, and Google Ads. Then touch on other ad networks if you really want to, but it depends on what you are selling.
Other ad networks include LinkedIn, Twitter, Reddit and Pinterest.
Google Ads are amazing because you don’t need to go create any videos or photos for advertising. It’s based on keywords and putting yourself at the top of the ranks. Although SEO is better than ads because you invest once, then you get traffic for ages.
Also, the search intent for anyone searching on search engines is very strong, they are searching for your product to buy, rather than FB ads putting the product in people’s faces hoping they would buy.
You will need to make sure you set up the pixel on your store for each ad network. The pixel tracks the users so you can target the right people and track the sales.
Everyone knows this one by now. If you have a bunch of followers, you can be an influencer and promote the products you would recommend. This has proven to be a good way to get sales.
Influencer marketing is also a big part of eCommerce. Entrepreneurs like Gretta Rose van Riel have proven this method to be a massive success, helping her build multiple million-dollar companies in Australia. You can get a course from Shopify on how to grow your store using Instagram here.
Step 3 – Start a Shopify trial & build it
Starting a Shopify store is super easy. All you need to do is go to this link and sign up for a 14-day free trial. This is why it’s good to have a product ready so you can start selling once you have set up your store.
With eCommerce, it may take some practising to get going and bring in the sales, so the sooner you start selling, the better.
