How to Add Tags to Shopify Orders + Tag Types

order tags

While tags are not displayed to customers, they are an incredibly useful tool for vendors on Shopify to categorize, group, and order their products.

Try to add tags to certain product groups in order to perform specific tasks for all of these products at once. For instance, tag all of your products that are to be sold during the summer season with the “Summer” tag in order to bulk edit these products and hide them from your sales page once summer is over.

Let’s have a more specific look into how you can make use of tags successfully for your Shopify business.

Shopify tag types

You can create custom Shopify tags that will make it easier for you to sort your products:

  • Product: Shopify product tags can be added to the product’s details page. This allows you to filter the products by description and create automatic collections via the products page as well as the inventory page. As soon as one of your customers will search for a specific term in your online store that matches one of your product tags, the products related to said tag will be displayed (without the actual tags).
  • Transfer: You can add tags or remove them for a transfer’s details page. These transfers can then be filtered on their specific page via a tag.
  • Customer: Shopify customer tags help you to build specific customer segments, which will make it easier to filter for them on the customer details page.
  • Blog Post: Add tags to your latest blog post, which will help you filter them on the blog posts page and also makes it easier for people to find your post.
  • Order: Filter through specific orders and order details by adding or removing order tags on the orders page.
  • Draft Order: Any tag created in a draft order will carry through to the order you create from it.
