Add Auto Currency Conversion to Products on Shopify

how to display products in local currencies on Shopify

As a Shopify store owner, you can offer your products in multiple/local currencies to appeal to a global market. This is a great way to boost sales and reach new customers and improve your conversion rate. But how do you display your products in local currencies on your Shopify store?

To display products in local currencies on Shopify:

  1. Install Coin by ShopPad from the app store.
  2. Format the Store Currency setting by adding <span class=money> before the currency symbol and </span> after it.
  3. Ensure you format both the HTML with currency and without currency fields.

This post will show you how to customize your store settings to display products in your customers’ local currencies on Shopify automatically, so they don’t even need to switch it themselves. This helps them “feel at home” when arriving at your store, increasing your conversion rate.

Adding multiple currencies using an automatic currency selector

1. Install Coin Currency Converter by ShopPad app

The first step to display products in local currencies is to install the Coin by ShopPad app on your Shopify store. This app displays prices in multiple/local currencies and automatically updates exchange rates.

It’s our favourite choice for any stores we build for clients as we’ve tried many and this one stands above the rest. It’s number 1 on our list of the best currency converter apps.

  1. Go to the Shopify App Store and search for “Coin Currency Converter by ShopPad“.
  2.  Click on “Add app“.
  3.  Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the app to your store.

2. Open Store Currency in Shopify Settings

  1. Go to Shopify “Settings“.
  2.  Click on “Store Details“.
  3.  Locate “Store Currency” and click “Change formatting“.
  4. Adjust the HTML with the currency field.

3. Editing the HTML code of your pages

Next, you’ll need to edit the HTML code of your product pages to display the local currency. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. With the currency formatting menu open, copy this code and paste it before the current currency symbol: “<span class=money>“.
  2.  Then, copy this code and paste it after the current currency symbol: “</span>“.

For example, if the formatting menu currently shows “${{amount}} USD” in the HTML with currency field, you will want to adjust it to “<span class=money>${{amount}} USD</span>“.

Editing HTML code to display products in local currencies

1. Adjust the “HTML without currency” field

As you did with the HTML with the currency field, you will need to adjust the HTML without the currency field.

For example, if the formatting menu currently shows “${{amount}}” in the HTML without a currency field, you will want to adjust it to “<span class=money>${{amount}}</span>“.

2. Save the changes and preview them

Now that the HTML code has been adjusted, you can save and preview the changes on your product pages. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Click “Save” in the currency formatting menu.
  2.  Go to “Shopify” > “Apps“.
  3.  Click “Coin“.
  4.  Click “Preview“.

Here you can see how your product pages will look with prices displayed in multiple currencies. If you like the look of your changes, you can publish them. Otherwise, make any necessary adjustments and try again.

Extra Tips: Here are some tips to keep in mind when managing prices for multiple currencies:

  • Ensure you factor in any applicable taxes or duties for each country. These can vary and may affect the overall cost to the customer.
  •  Consider the impact of exchange rates on your product prices. Monitor them regularly and adjust prices accordingly to maintain profit margins.
  •  Offer promotions or discounts in local currencies to appeal to customers and boost sales.

Conclusion

That wraps up the steps for displaying products in multiple currencies on your Shopify store. With the Coin by ShopPad app and some HTML code adjustments, you can easily offer your products to a global market and boost sales.

Remember to regularly monitor exchange rates and factor in any taxes, OSS taxes, or duties for each country to ensure profitability. Good luck!
