apple pay on shopify?

Apple Pay, not to be confused with Apple Pay Cash, is a convenient way for customers to make purchases via your online store. Here’s our quick and easy guide on how to enable Apple Pay on your Shopify store.

How does Apple Pay work?

When a customer is transacting using Apple Pay, they don’t have to manually enter payment details. They simply have to tap the Apple Pay logo or Apple Pay button, which will then prompt for identity verification.

Luckily for Shopify store owners, there is no extra cost for accepting Apple Pay payments.

What you need to know & do first

Here are the requirements for you to activate Apple Pay and enable the Apply Pay button:

You have to use one of the following payment providers:

  • Shopify payments (best choice if you can get accepted)
  • Braintree
  • First Data Payeezy
  • Stripe
  • Authorize.net
  • CyberSource

Take note of the following:

  • Apple Pay is available to any store that has access to Shopify Payments
  • Apple Pay support for Shopify subscriptions is only available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand for Visa and Mastercards.
  • You need to have a valid SSL activated on your store domain.
  • You must adhere to Apple’s Acceptable User Guidelines.
  • Apple Pay isn’t available to merchants located in France who use Shopify Payments.
  • For customers to see the Apple Pay button, they must use Safari on iOS 12.1 or macOS 10.14.1 on one of the following devices: iPhone (SE, 6, 6 Plus, or newer), iPad (Pro, Air 2, mini 3, or newer), Apple Watch, MacBook Pro with Touch ID, and any Mac model (2012 or newer) plus they must have an Apple Pay-enabled iPhone or Apple Watch.

Benefits of adding Apple Pay to your Shopify store

  1. Improved Checkout Experience: Apple Pay simplifies the checkout process by allowing customers to complete their purchase with just a touch or glance. This eliminates the need for customers to manually enter their payment and shipping information, making the checkout process faster and more convenient.
  2. Increased Conversion Rates: By simplifying the checkout process, Apple Pay can help reduce cart abandonment and increase conversion rates. Customers are more likely to complete their purchase when the checkout process is quick and easy.
  3. Enhanced Security: Apple Pay uses a method called tokenization to secure transactions. This means that instead of transmitting your actual card details to the merchant, Apple Pay uses a device-specific number and a unique transaction code. Furthermore, your card details are never stored on your device or on Apple’s servers, making Apple Pay a secure payment option.
  4. Customer Preference: With the growing popularity of mobile shopping, offering Apple Pay as a payment option can enhance customer satisfaction. Many customers prefer using Apple Pay because it’s fast, easy, and secure.
  5. Competitive Advantage: Offering Apple Pay as a payment option can give your Shopify store a competitive edge. It shows that your business is modern and customer-centric, and it can help attract customers who prefer to use Apple Pay.
